December 13: Saint Lucy made a vow of virginity. However, she was betrothed to a pagan, who had her arrested for her Faith. She was eventually martyred.

December 14: Saint John of the Cross suffered greatly, even being imprisoned by his fellow friars and beaten by a superior. He became a great mystic, writer, and is deemed one of the best poets that ever lived.

May 2: Saint Athanasius was banished five times for defending Our Lord's Divinity against heresy, he persevered and truth triumphed in the end.

July 11: Saint Benedict relieved the distressed, healed the sick, distributed alms, nourished the poor, and is said to have raised the dead on more than one occasion.

February 10: Saint Scholastica is the twin sister of St. Benedict. She directed a monastery of nuns. Both would meet once a year have deep spiritual conversations.

September 27: Saint Vincent de Paul led an intense spiritual life. His contemplation of God gave him the graces and strength to accomplish what ordinary men could never do.

February 9: Saint Michael was born in Cuenca, Ecuador in 1854 to a wealthy family. From birth he had a deformity that disabled him and prevented him from walking.

February 22: Saint Margaret of Cortona devoted herself to caring for the sick, living off of alms, eating and sleeping little, and eventually took the habit of the third order of St. Francis.

April 12: Alferius is said to have lived to the age of 120. Throughout the course of his life, he had built a network of 3000 monks across southern Italy.
