Saints & Heroes

August 22: Saint Andrew and his sister Saint Bridget the Younger were born in Ireland of noble parents. There they studied under Saint Donatus, an Irish scholar.

August 15: Saint Tarsicius is the patron saint of altar servers and first communicants. Very little is known about this heroic martyr.

August 6: Pope Saint Hormisdas (Pope from 514-523), was born in Frosinone, Campagna di Roma, Italy. He was an Italian by birth, though his name "Hormisdas" is Persian.

August 5: Saint Emidius was born a pagan and converted to Christianity. He became a Bishop and was Martyred. He is the patron Saint against earthquakes.

July 16: Saint Marie Magdalen Postel is the patron saint of chastity, teenage girls, poverty and forgiveness. She lived from 1756 to 1846 and was canonized in 1925.

April 26: Nothing is known of Saint Paschasius’ lineage, as he was an orphan found on the steps of the convent of Notre-Dame de Soissons.

January 1: Saint Zdislava was born in the northern part of the Czech Republic around 1220 and died at only 32 years of age in 1252. She is known as the patroness of difficult marriages and people ridiculed for their piety.

February 2: Saint Joan grew up at a time when the conflict between the Protestant revolutionaries and the defenders of the Catholic faith was at its height.

May 31: Petronilla, a first century virgin and martyr, is traditionally identified as the daughter of Saint Peter.
