October 18: Saint Luke is one of the four Gospel writers, author of the Acts of the Apostles, and referred to by Saint Paul as "the most dear physician."
October 20: Saint Paul of the Cross's early attraction for Our Lord Crucified grew naturally into an ardent devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.
October 19: By the late 1640's, after years of heroic perseverance, the missionaries were converting a considerable number of souls, mostly among the Huron tribesman.
October 21: Saint Hilarion, a pilgrim of solitude, sought to be left alone with God. But though silent, his miracles spoke loudly and people sought him out in whatever wilderness he fled to.
October 22: Saint Philip, in spite of torture, was stalwart in his faith, refusing to worship the graven images of the Roman Empire.
October 23: While in prison, Saint John of Capistrano had a vision of Saint Francis of Assisi inviting him to join his order and resolved to dedicate his life entirely to God.
October 25: Being very popular in Brescia, Gaudentius went on pilgrimage to Jerusalem hoping to be forgotten. But upon returning, he was appointed Bishop.
October 26: Saint Cedd, Priest and eventually Bishop, was said to be a man unafraid to confront the powerful. He was said to be proficient in five languages.
October 27: Saint Frumentius, the first Bishop in Ethiopia, was consecrated by St. Athanasius himself. He began the gradual conversion of Ethiopia to Christianity.
October 28: Saint Simon, surnamed the Zealot, and Saint Jude Thaddeus, were two of the Twelve Apostles. After preaching in Egypt, both suffered martyrdom in Syria.
