January 18: Saint Margaret, the daughter of King Bela IV, sought the most menial tasks in the monastery order to avoid preferential treatment based on her royal lineage.
January 18: Saint Prisca, though only a child, was to be fed to lions by Romans. The lions, however, did not harm her, but licked her feet.
January 17: Wishing to leave all to follow Christ, Saint Anthony distributed his holdings among the poor, and retired to a life of solitude. He lived a life of mortification.
January 16: Saint Honoratus of Arles, a convert from paganism, started a monastery that is active to this day. He later became Bishop and fought against the Arian Heresy.
January 15: Saint Ita of Killeedy was a king's daughter. Although she was able to marry and have a royal wedding, she chose a consecrated life of virginity.
January 14: Saint Sava was the son of a King Stephen I, who founded Serbia. Both retired to become monks, leaving the throne to Sava's younger brother.
January 13: Saint Hilary of Poitiers was a bishop who fought the Arian heresy until the day of his death, even facing exile by the Roman Emperor.
January 12: Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys founded the congregation of Notre Dame de Montreal, and is known by the locals as “Mother of the Colony”.
January 11: Saint Theodosius chose a life of solitude, but his sanctity and miracles attracted many who wished to serve God under his direction.
January 10: Saint Peter Orseolo was a great military commander who became the highest ranking politician of the Venetian state, but he gave this up to become a monk.
